So, having received this warrant, I headed down to Forest Gate Police Station late that evening, to be told my the PC at the front desk that he had no idea what to do as it seemed like a case of identity theft and i should go to Stratford Magistrates Court in the morning to attend to this matter.
So, came the next day, i took the morning off work, thinking i could get this sorted as soon as the Court opens - and headed down to Court, where i was arrested for failing to appear in court the previous month. I was also told that i should have been arrested the night before at the Police Station as i had been issued with a No-Bail Warrant - meaning im in alot of trouble for something i aint done. hmmmmm
After four hours being locked up in a cell, waiting for my solicitor and for my case to be heard by the magistrates, i was finally taken to the court room. I had already explained to my solicitor that this was insane, i had never drunk, never mind driving whilst drunk, and the vehicle mentioned being pulled over by the arresting officers, was not known to me either.
Solicitor asked for the evidence from that night to be presented in court, which clearly showed a photograph of the Mr X, which had been taken the at the police station on the night of the arrest.
At this point, it was realised that clearly my details were used falsely, and i was released, cleared of all charges.
Except, the only thing was, the court apparantly did not have the power to remove the warrant off my name, as they are still looking for Mr X. The warrant is for Mr X, but as he gave my name, these are the only details they can go by. So his warrant remains in my file, and if im lucky enough, ill get arrested everytime a name check is done for me...How great is that....Not So!!!

Sounds like a bit of a farce to me, seems that the "system" at least redeemed itself by having the picture that proved your innocence, but I would have thought that there would be some way of removing this guy's wrong-doing from being associated to you. Maybe they could have "John Doe" type files like when they find bodies that are unidentified.
